Plastic Mold Working Area
Milling machine: You can use it for machining flat surfaces, grooves and curved surfaces. It can be used to make mould plates, cores and similar items. It can be used to make them with a rough finish or just to shape them. It is usually very precise, with a margin of error of around 0.02mm.
Lathes: It is mainly used to make circular parts like guide pins, dowels, circular cores and nozzles. It can measure to an accuracy of 0.02mm. CNC lathes can also process circular parts with complex cross-sections.
Grinding machines: It includes surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Surface grinders are used to make the flat surfaces of mould plates and cores level. Cylindrical grinders are used to process cylindrical components like guide pins, ejector pins and round cores. They can achieve a higher level of precision, typically within 0.01-0.02mm.
Drilling machines: You can use it for drilling, reaming, boring, and tapping. The main thing these machines do is make precise holes in moulds. They usually need to be accurate to within 0.1 mm.
CNC Machining Centres: The main equipment used to make plastic moulds can machine surfaces that are complicated and precise. It is perfect for finishing inserts, copper electrodes, and inserts, and can achieve tolerances down to 0.005mm. You can get it in three-, four- or five-axis set-ups.
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM): It uses the corrosive effect of pulsed discharges between the electrode and the workpiece. It's great for making deep cuts, creating right angles, and other features that CNC machines can't do. It is very precise, with a margin of error as small as 0.005mm.
Deep-hole drilling machine: It is specially designed for machining deep cavities, such as water-cooling channels and ejector pins. This ensures that the holes are straight and precise.
Mould assembly machine: This is used to check moulds after they have been put together. It can also be used to check that parts fit together well and that the gaps between them are correct. This helps to make sure that the moulds can close and open properly.
Polishing Machines: This is used to make the surface of moulds look better. It does this by using sandpaper, a special kind of sandpaper called diamond paste, and a machine that uses air pressure to polish.
